Negative Space Self Assessment

1. Technical Skills Justification: I think I deserve a 3 because all my thumbnails are complete and represent a plant and they are all different. You can tell I experimented with different background types. They are decent quality and I paid attention to detail and they are mostly in good shape and not bent or ripped. There is little white space and the plants or well drawn.

2. Creative Problem-Solving Skills Justification: I think it deserve a 3 because the positive and negative space work together well and they both look cool and there not just plain and boring. I think doing the alphabet is a creative way to color the negative space and I don’t think many people would have chosen to do that I feel I did well in making my picture unique and not the same as other who may have just chosen circle or something more original.

3. Why do artists make thumbnail sketches before starting a formal drawing? In what ways did it affect your work?
So they can decide which they like the best, which has, the best technical skills and which is the most creative. Also to make sure they are getting the point across they way they want to. There are probably many different reasons that artists make thumbnails before a final drawing. I think mine helped me because I picked my favorite thumbnail and by having different ones I could choose the one that had the best composition and I thought was the most creative and I could also choose the design I wanted for the background because I used my thumbnails to experiment with.

4. Why does it matter what pattern you choose for your background? How do different patterns affect the "look" of this project? It matters which background you use because you don’t want to have the same design as everyone else, and the design your draw and choose to do it unique to your personality and shows that your creative enough to use something that not ordinary of simple.

Reflection
September 23, 2008

1. Technical Skills Justification: I believe I deserve a meets the standard because I have the leafs glued nicely on the paper and the cutting it decent and not messy or badly cut. I don’t believe there are many if any pencil lines and smudges that are apparent and distract you form the design itself. Also I followed the directions and had my name and type on the back of the paper.

2. Creative Problem-Solving Skills Justification: I believe I also deserve a meets for creative problem solving because my designs are all clear and demon straight the different areas there supposed to be such as symmetry and tension etc.

3. Which of the four designs do you feel is the most successful in terms of using positive and negative space well? Please explain. I believe my most successful design is my tension design because the negative and positive space is both very interesting.

4. Which one of the four designs do you feel best communicates the assigned Principle of Art? Please explain. I believe my symmetry design because it best demon straights symmetry. I think I could have cut each design better and most carefully cut out but over all I believe the overall neatness is good and you can tell it’s supposed to be symmetrical.
